How Old Were Your Kiddies When….?
They decided to go to a party instead of going trick ‘r’ treating with Dad and sibs?
My 13 year old is going to a party tonight while I take the 9 and 6 year olds out.
Last year we went to an all ages party and lots of parents were there before trick ‘r’ treating. Facing reality is so hard to do.
Cycm44: Wow, youre a tough mom.
My oldest was 16 when she decided she’d rather be elsewhere !
That was hard to take… this is my favorite holiday, and I have always joked with the kids that when they grow up and/or move away, they can skip Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, etc. here, BUT THEY MUST ALWAYS COME HOME FOR HALLOWEEN !
Now , she wants to be here, but she has to work today .

my daughter went with a group of friends and their parents last year when she was 9, while her silblings stayed in our neighborhood with us.
i hated it. this year, her friends are invited to come with us.

So is trust. Ask your child details about the party, are parents going to be there, what time does it end, a phone number where you can reach your child? if your child is a girl tell her if there are more boys than girls "come home" and tell her why she needs to come home be honest tell her what you used to do at her age and be honest about it tell her why it isn’t safe, go over the please don’t drink or drug rule. and tell the 13 year old call if things don’t look right like there is drinking and drugs, tell your child you trust them and no one else, and agree to meet down the street if she needs to come home. I have a code with my daughter it is if things are not good she will call and say "Hi mom just calling to say I’m ok and you need me home at what time? that is when I just ask a yes or no question like "Do you want to come home now?" if she says yes then you say "I want you home now". that gives your child an excuse to leave without looking stupid to their friends. Granted you will look like the bad guy but who cares you are the parent.
remember trust your child and Good Luck
